Born in 1967, since 2007 Macola has been managing director of SMAU, a leading Italian fair concerned with innovation and information technology. Until 2007 he was managing director of TL.TI Expo SpA, a society of the Fieramilano SpA group. Furthermore, in 2001 Pierantonio Macola founded Webbit, the historical event in Padua devoted to ICT, a precursor of the present SMAU and a platform for meetings and relationships between the suppliers of technologies and the managers of the territory’s businesses and public administrations. SMAU is concerned with sharing knowledge; it has a network of more than 600 independent mentors and a public business of 85,000 managers spread over the territories covered by SMAU Naples (December), SMAU Padova (May), SMAU Turin, (May), SMAU Bologna (June), SMAU Florence (July) and the SMAU Milan appointment in October. In March 2015 Macola set up the first international edition of SMAU in Berlin with the aim of introducing the Italian ecosystem of startups to the Berlin hub of innovation. Today he also has the role of councilor of Italia Startup, a non-profit organization that backs and gives a voice to the Italian startup ecosystems; he is also a councilor of Assintel, the national association of ICT firms.
