Winners Announced for the Special Corporate Fast Track Prize | PGM8

Yesterday at OpenZone in Bresso the Special Corporate Fast Track Prize Finals were held for the eighth edition of the Gaetano Marzotto Prize, with the participation of illycaffè, QVC Italia, Santa Margherita Gruppo Vinicolo, Santex Rimar Group, Selle Royal Group and Zcube – Zambon Research Venture, the six sponsoring corporations of the open innovation program of the Prize, and the winner startups who will assist the corporate partners were announced. 

The event was opened by Elena Zambon and Margherita Marzotto, the Presidents of Zambon and Progetto Marzotto respectively, and hostesses of the evening alongside  Cristiano Seganfreddo, Director of Progetto Marzotto, to present the evening, which also saw the participation of, among others,  Alessio Rossi, the President of Confindustria’s Young Entrepreneurs association.

Now in its third edition, the Special Corporate Fast Track Prize brings together industrial partners of the Gaetano Marzotto Premio with startups that are most adapted to their businesses, in order to develop together and find common solutions. The Prize aims at creating reciprocal opportunities for companies to update themselves and evolve through the innovative potential of incubated startups, and for the startups to gain know how from these big corporate members and, conditions permitting, to find industrial partners and investors in their market sector.

After a careful selection from among 600 applications for the Prize, by the special commissions set up:

illycaffè has chosen COLUMBUS’ EGGTM

Sector: Agro/Food Tech

Place of Origin: Piacenza, Emilia Romagna

Innovative Packaging for the Food &Beverage market which extends the life of products, while cutting down on waste. A biodegradable film which protects food from moulds, yeasts, bacteria, and which can be applied by immersion or spraying techniques.  Because the packaging is composed of natural elements that are sustainable and low in cost, it has the potential of  three benefits: longer shelf-life, monitoring of freshness,and a benefit to the consumer.

QVC Italia has chosen KIGARDEN

Sector: Agro/ Food Tech – Bio/Med/Life Science/Health Care

Place of Origin: Pordenone, Friuli Venezia Giulia

The garden of well-being: a smart garden which combines Italian design and technology for indoor cultivation of unusual plants with intense therapeutic powers. 

A kit with selected plants is supplied for those who want to discover something new in first person through the curative properties of plants in order to fight psychophysical stress and get one’s shape back so as to combat aging.

Santa Margherita Gruppo Vinicolo has chosen BABELEE

Sector: Industry 4.0 – Media/Publishing Tech

LittleSea has patented a technology which allows users to create personalized videos through a connection of any type of database. The potential of this innovation is explained in a platform called Babelee which permits users to work completely on their own in both the creative process and data integration. It is useful for covering entire communication strategies, and allows companies to create their own 1-to-1 communication campaigns.

Santex Rimar Group has chosen CROSSING

Sector: New Materials – Nano Tech

Place of Origin: Treviso, Veneto

Developed from an intuition about applying ACL – activators for cross linking – in large-scale manufacturing production, Crossing develops products that reduce the environmental impact of the industrial process, through the use of a “green” chemical substances to produce non-toxi skins, antimicrobial packaging, antifouling paints, while also helping to reduce production costs.

Selle Royal Group has chosen RESPECTLIFE

A new concept for functional clothing and fabrics which respects the environment and the human body. Its innovation lies in the using polypropylene, which was invented by Nobel prizewinner Giulio Natta and Karl Ziegler in the 50s, with a plain weave to make underwear and clothing that is naturally bacteriostatic, resistent to moulds, insects and other microorganisms, thereby eliminating the effects of perspiration and greatly reducing bacterial contamination.

Zcube – Zambon Research Venture has chosen PANOXYVIR

A patent that proposes the use of oxysterols, physiological molecules produced from cholesterol oxidation, as powerful antivirals in the prevention and cure of infections such as rhinovirus. 

Rhinovirus is a causal agent of the common cold (the most widespread infection in the world), but is also responsible for worsening of non-reversible chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive bronchopneumonia and cystic fibrosis.
